I WAS a financial advisor and I was recomending consolidation to my clients…. until I consolidated 3 times and was 52k in the hole . And absolutely nothing to show for it … I trew away every fanancial notions that was tougth to me by the university and the bank that I worked for… Now I would not be able to hold a job as a financial advisor because of my views whit money…it goes now againts my ethics.. I'm still 33k in debt but it will be all cleared in abour another 23 monts….. yepp! dept in modern slavery….

Years ago, I consolidated when I didn't need to. I had a major surgery at age 27. Recovery was 8 weeks…which meant NO PAYCHECK. My credit was mid-700s when I did it. BIG MISTAKE! I didn't know my credit would drop to 368. Took me 10 years to get it back to mid-700s. I ended up doing debt settlement. Short-sold my house. All that derogatory mess has fallen off. All that's left? Go ole Sallie Mae!

IG georgio24 says:

The problem with that theory is "IF" people would still only make the lowest payment. Now most people that have gotten into debt in the first place will only make the minimum payment. But if you still pay the $1100 to the consolidation you'll be out much quicker

Marquise Logan says:

Consolidation isn't bad if you use it smart in other words it will allow you to lower your minimum payment but you can still pay more on your balance but should you have a financial crisis your not obligated to pay 10 smaller payments you have 1 loan 1 low payment you can control

Billy Hansen says:

I was kind of sad when Ken Coleman left. But since then, I've really enjoyed what you've done with the channel, George. Keep it up!

T Regis says:

i still don't quite follow. i recently did consolidation, first payment comes out next week. i'm on disability from the VA and I can't work, or at least find some work under the table to throw at that debt every month in order to make headway. i'd rather set it and forget it then if/when money does come my way, pay it off as fast as i can. the way it was explained to me was that if i kept that debt as i was going, i would be paying 47k for my 17k debt. so i'm set up to pay 13k instead of 17k and if i don't do this, i don't see how i'll be able to do it except be a prisoner in my home which i'm pretty much at that point now.
