The OULS recently had the opportunity to work with barrister and CEDR accredited mediator Suzanne Rab from Serle Court Chambers to help in the making of a short film on mediation. The film was written and produced by Suzanne Rab and was shot on location at Serle Court. It stars OULS members Abigail Scott and Peter Savory who played the lawyers for each of the two parties and was directed and edited by Gwyn Hopkins.

The purpose of the film is to promote mediation as a form of Alternative Dispute Resolution (“ADR”) and it is being shown to legal practitioners and their clients to compliment a series of presentations on the subject.

Access to courts to resolve disputes and get justice is a right granted to all South Africans. But to many, exercising that constitutional right remains a pipe dream. However, the introduction to Court Annexed Mediation to resolve disputes in our court system, is set to bring the poor closer to obtaining justice. What will this move entail?

Florida mediator Tye Bourdony of Cfmediationcenter.com discusses debt collections type of cases in small claims court and how they too can be resolved privately between the parties instead of before a Judge. This is not legal advice, so be sure to discuss your specific issue with an attorney.

Published by attorneys and mediators of Olowska & Pierre, Inc. (oplawyers.org) and Instant Mediations, LLC. (InstantMediations.com), this channel covers the exciting world of law, mediation, arbitration, and online practice.

Arbitration is different from mediation, which is voluntary. Instead, arbitration is an alternative type of court, where the arbitrator renders a judgment. The debt collectors (and big money in general) like it because it makes it easier for them to get a judgment against you. It typically has easier rules of evidence and reduced discovery, and appeals are nearly impossible. So we generally suggest against it – to put it mildly. But if you happen to have everything you need, we still suggest against it because of its lack of “transparency” and the fact that arbitrators are often loyal to the debt collection side.

I CAN DO IT! Being broke is only a mindset. Powerful new motivational speech from Lisa Nichols.
