That's so exciting Leila!! You're so close and it'll go faster from here ?

Megan M says:

You’re doing awesome! I found that as soon as I get under the 20k balance mark on loans it gives that extra motivation to find ways to pay a little more here and there.

I am split like you on the student loan forgiveness… I paid all of mine back and would worry about the long term ramifications for the entire tax paying population

Would you consider doing a video on your student loan breakdown again? It’s been a hot minute but it would be interesting to see how the money you have saved so far would be split across the different student loans.

Anyways, keep up the great progress!

Denise says:

Congrats on yet another milestone!!!

a frugal little life says:

Yes 100%, that’ll come back somehow. I doubt they’ll refund me $10k of the $20k I paid back ?makes me wonder if I should’ve sacrificed all that I did to pay them off when I did but something for sure is not right with the system, I could go on for hours on this topic !

I support the forgiveness because I’ve been there and would’ve loved the extra help, but I don’t support it because idk if it’ll have a ripple effect somehow ????? I’m so so torn

$400 is amazing!! It’s crazy how much we can save when we control our “personal” spending…I can testify to that ???

Denise says:

As someone who just paid $41,000 in student loan debt, I fully support forgiveness. This country bails out billion dollar companies, sends billions of dollars overseas, not to mention that defense is our country’s biggest expense on top of our open door immigration policies. Point is, we’ve never had control over how our tax money is used, and we always are left to deal with the effects of that through inflation regardless. So I’m just not sure the new concern about how student loan forgiveness will affect our taxes when majority of our money goes overseas. I notice in general this country has such a dislike for social programs that helps those in need (welfare, section 8, unemployment) because it’s taxpayers money and people should help themselves. We do so much for everybody else, why not invest our tax money here to stimulate our own economy. We don’t have a say either way (which sucks) but I’d rather help the average American.

Single Parent FIRE says:

I paid off all my students loans through blood, sweat and tears. No one gave me a dime. There is no “forgiveness”, the money is coming from tax payers like me that already get raked over paying super high taxes ?

Isla says:

This is isn’t meant to be rude but you say you want to pay all of your debt off on your own but you accept other people sending you money to pay them off. So then you are not paying them on your own?

isabel2589 says:

That's amazing, Leila, great progress! so happy for you!

LJ S says:

I agree that student loans shouldn’t be forgiven. I worry about long term effects and don’t expect others to pay my debts. And I have almost exactly $10,000 left in student loans, so it would basically pay me off completely.

Eucis93 says:

Yes, everyone should be responsible for their own debt. We’re talking student loans though, not credit card debt or mortgage. My country has free education so in my opinion student loan debt is not something you should have to begin with, it is a necessity rather than ”self-inflicted debt” like credit cards for example. Education is a human right, but in America it seems to be a privilege. I’d never been able to go to school had I been born in America, and I know countless of smart and successful people, some with high education who wouldn’t have the degrees they do, had we all been expected to go into great debt for school. I’m not sure I’d even WANT a degree if I’d be suffering for it over the next 5, 20, 50 years. According to some we have high taxes here in Finland, personally I think it’s a much lower price to pay than possibly lifelong debt over basic things like education and healthcare. A country is not doing too good if only the rich and healthy are comfortable.

I haven’t looked into it so I don’t know where they’d take the money from or what y’alls current taxes are but I highly doubt it’ll cost taxpayers an insane amount of taxes were to rise. The amount of people in America alone would lower the toll on the individual taxpayer significantly, I’m thinking +0,1% or less income tax per taxpayer should easily cover this specific cost. Or just start taxing the rich properly lol. And it definitely would not cause inflation thanks to people being able to actually put their hard-earned money back into the economy rather than into interests, fees and debt. Think about the amount of money never even reaching the market because of student debt in America. Forgiving $10k is probably going to boost the economy for atleast a while, people would be able to actually use their money since they’ll be out of debt quicker.

Inea - FI Journey says:

daaamn. congrats on all the progress! 20k is soooo huge!

Sano Amahi says:

If they could take off interest rates from student loans. That would help

Ashley Bailey says:

I went to one of the most affordable medical schools in the country, and it still cost me over $200,000 in student loans before interest. Without these student loans only the rich would be able to get these higher degrees. Something needs to change. Whether that is them reducing the interest rate or capping the amount that schools can charge. I shouldn't have the equivalent of a home loan in order to be a physician.

Jill Suzanne says:

I agree with your thoughts on student loans forgiveness.

Mikayla S says:

I get people want their student loans forgiven or a portion removed so did I but guess what I did, worked TWO jobs, made the sacrifice and paid them off. It’s mind boggling how people feel entitled to have some of their loans forgiven when other people worked extremely hard to get them paid off. Good job on all your progress! Love your channel!

Cactus Flower says:

ONLY 15,900 LEFT yaaaaaaaayyyyyyy ???

Kish1006 says:

I agree with you completely about the loans. Same with the billions that keeps going to Ukraine.

Maureen O'Donoghue says:

While I understand the hesitation where does money come from for us to pay off. Where would that money be put to otherwise outside of education/student loan forgiveness? I would rather pay taxes and it go to things that help with reduction of cost of student loan debt and education if that means people can get an education in this country, rather than money going to bailing out more companies out of debt who know better and then end up laying off employees.

Rachel Zupanc says:

The $4 billion is for loans for folks attending schools that were deemed faulty in providing a quality education. It appears that all other schools would need a lawsuit to come into play against for those student loans to be forgiven. Highly unlikely. But I believe the forbearance will be extended for another 6 months.

Amber K says:

i'm a Canadian so the American student loan doesnt affect me but During the "c'Vid" the Canadian gov gave out money, even if people didn't ask for it. 2 years later they asked for it back in full. I have no idea how people who were on it longer have to pay off, but i personally had to hand over 2k. It just makes be hesitant hearing about "loan forgiveness" etc. Just my opinion. 🙂

Cristal Joseph says:

Congrats Leila! It feels so much faster now that you’re over the middle point. Keep it up!

K J says:

I totally agree with you! We should be responsible for our own debt. And while it may be beneficial initially, it could have serious long term consequences.

Jaela Sam says:

??? Omg. Congrats Leila, that's amazing. Debt free in 2023??
