Mandelyn Munoz says:

So, my mom received 3 lawsuits back in 2016 and ended up settling while in deposition for x amount of money on each case sending 50/50/25 dollar money orders once a month. My mom has paid off 2 of these debts. Paid one off back in 2018 and one earlier this year 2020. Come June 2020, she gets a letter in the mail stating she owes 226 bucks on the case she had paid off in 2018. I went through all of the money order receipts and the money added up correctly and I told them as such via email. They sent an email back with the amounts received for each month. I see that they are missing the month of May and July 2018 for a total amount of 100 dollars. So I called western union to check the status of the money orders, they haven't been cashed. But for 15 bucks for each money, they said they could put a trace on it, I declined, not going to spend more money on a money order i already paid for. Post office will not take responsibility either for the "lost" mail. They said we should have contacted them earlier, however we did not know it was lost. Contacted debt collector, they were no help, they of course just said, hey, you owe us 226, but we will settle for 100 bucks. I'm like, well apparently that's all that's missing! why ask for 226 when only 100 is missing, real crooks. So my issue is where to go from here, in the middle of a pandemic, have these ppl breathing down my mom's neck for essentially 100 bucks that we already paid for. Then, my mom gets another letter in the mail stating that she owes 400 off dollars for the case she paid off earlier this year, 2020. I haven't gone through the money orders on that one to see what true amount they are missing of the postal service lost those letters with money orders as well. I'm so stressed out trying to figure out where money is going to come for things like rent and groceries and then got to deal with shot like this during this corona outbreak. We are in Texas,so not even sure if you can assist us here.

Never settle with a debt collector. Never admit you owe the debt. You owe them nothing.

If you are already pending a court hearing in 1 month, will/can you still settle with them and having them not take you to court?
